Deezer increases its prices: up to 20% increase

Deezer announces that it will increase the prices of its subscriptions, starting January 18, 2022. The Premium offer will go from € 9.99 / month to € 10.99 / month (+ 10%) and the offer Famille will see its price change from € 14.99 / month to € 17.99 / month (+ 20%).

Rising prices at Deezer

It was by e-mail that Deezer discreetly announced the price increase. The music streaming service begins with a positive message, announcing in particular the addition of Hi-Fi and exclusive content. It is only at the very end of the message that we can read: “We will increase the price of your subscription …”.

As one can imagine, this increase does not please the public. Louis-Alexis de Gemini, France and international marketing director at Deezer, defends himself on this subject in the columns of the Figaro. “We had not increased our rates for twelve years. During this period, our library has grown from 4.5 to 73 million titles and our service has evolved considerably with the integration of new features ”, he said. He also ensures that the price increase will not go into Deezer’s pocket alone. “70% excluding tax of the price of our subscriptions goes to songwriters, producers and artists. This represents 10 euros excluding tax on the 18 euros of the family package and 6 euros excluding tax on the 11 euros of the Premium package “.

The offer which knows the biggest increase is that for the family. This allows you to use an account with six people in total. We are still talking about a 20% increase. “This represents 50 cents more per account”, tempers Louis-Alexis of Gemini.

Will subscribers switch to Spotify or Apple Music?

As a reminder, Spotify also announced a price hike a few months ago. This only concerned his family offer which took one euro to go to € 15.99 / month. Deezer is therefore more expensive than Spotify and Apple Music, which dominate the market. It makes you wonder if this will not push subscribers to migrate to Spotify or Apple Music. It is quite possible in reality.
