Google is working on a new feature for the Chrome browser. It is made possible to use widgets. These widgets feature shortcuts and are partly thanks to Apple. The new widgets for Chrome are now being tested.

Widgets for Chrome Browser

The Chrome browser is a versatile browser full of features. Think of a built-in password manager, the synchronization of tabs on other devices and since the beginning of this year the new tabs bar. Lately, more posts about new features have been popping up, and now talk about the widget. A household name on Android for years, and Apple also sees more and more benefit in iOS.

It seems that Google is now also getting started with a widget for the Android app of Chrome. The widget will be named ‘Quick Action Search Widget’ and will bring you a few shortcuts in addition to a search bar. For iOS, the widget is already better developed, and it gives a clearer picture of what we can expect. The shortcuts are there for an incognito window, a voice command and a QR code scanner. Google is expected to roll out a similar widget for Android.

At the moment you can already activate the widget in the Canary test version of Chrome at the ‘flags’, but it doesn’t work very well yet. For example, the shortcuts are still missing in the widget. It is unknown when Google will bring the widget to the final version of Chrome for Android.
