Samsung is aiming high on sales of Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 devices

The previous devices have yet to be announced, but Samsung sets its expectations for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 high. The predecessor 4 series will probably be announced in a few weeks, but Samsung’s goals for the next generation are already being reported.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

ETNews indicates that Samsung expects to sell 10 million units of the two phones. Those are higher numbers than, for example, the Fold 3 and the Flip 3, which sold 7.1 million times in 2021. The Flip 5 is the most selling device of the two new stars from the 5 series, Samsung thinks. Of these, it expects to sell 8 million units, while ‘only’ 2 million units are Fold 5 devices.

Not much is known about the new devices yet, but there are some small details in the rumor mill. For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 would have three sensors on the back, including a 50 megapixel Isocell GN3 main camera. In addition, there is a 12 megapixel camera on the front, which is but only: no second sensor on the front. Less is known about the Flip phone. Nothing about the cameras anyway. However, the device (just like Fold 5) would use a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The Fold 4 and Flip 4 are expected to use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

The folding device market

It is of course strange to talk about the successor of a device that has not even been announced yet, but at the same time it offers an interesting insight into the market of foldable devices. Samsung is the largest in this regard and, despite quite a few bumps in the road, has persevered in making this type of device. However, they are relatively expensive.

Partly for this reason, the sales expectation for the Flip is greater than for the Fold: Flip is a considerably cheaper device. Flip is a clamshell (a kind of oyster or make-up box), while the Fold is more of a butterfly, with a large hinge between two full screens, rather than one slightly larger screen having a fold in the middle. It is therefore logical that it is more expensive: it also needs more power.

So plenty of speculation, but first let’s see the fourth generation Flip and Fold. What do you think, will Flip 4 and Fold 4 be successful?
