Apple Watch Series 8 can indicate whether you are going to get sick

Sick, nasty and nasty? Your new Apple Watch Series 8 knows if you have a fever.

The next Apple Watch will reportedly include a body temperature sensor that will alert you when you develop a fever. This is what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman knows to tell. The Series 8 won’t provide an exact reading, but it can send a notification asking you to see a doctor or use a special thermometer.

Being Sick and the Apple Watch Series 8

The question is whether many people are waiting for this or whether it is just a gimmick. Incidentally, this isn’t the first time Gurman has raised the possibility that the Series 8 includes a temperature sensor. He first said Apple was working on the feature in June 2021, and reported it would likely come with the company’s wearable lineup for 2022. He bounced back on that prediction in January. And warned fans that monitoring blood sugar levels was one of the few options that would exist in a few years.

Still, a few months later, he broke the news that the new watch would include a body temperature sensor. Provided the feature would meet Apple’s internal testing guidelines. Now, in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman writes that he believes the feature is “an opportunity” for the standard Series 8 and the oft-notoriously rumored rugged edition Apple is making for extreme athletes.

Amendments

Gurman says other changes to the Series 8 “will likely be minor”. Reiterating his report from last week, he suggests the wearable will have the same processing power as the Series 7 and Series 6. He also mentions that the more expensive Series 8 models could have an updated display.
