Apple reiterates its commitment to respecting the confidentiality of personal data

January 28 (yesterday therefore) was the day of the protection of personal data, and inevitably, Apple could not fail to mark the occasion in view of its position on the question (not always clear, but always much clearer than a Google or a Meta). Erik Neuenschwander, Apple’s VP in charge of user data privacy, therefore agreed to be questioned on the subject by youtuber-journalist Rene Ritchie.

Unsurprisingly, this interview does not bring any startling revelations, but the VP of Apple confirms that the Cupertino company has set itself the objective of collecting only the strict data necessary for the operation of one of its products or services. And if data collection is not necessary… then Apple does not collect. “If you avoid collecting data from the start, it’s a great way to respect the user’s privacy while leaving them in control of their data” says Erik Neuenschwander.

We also learn that the software advances made possible by the neural engine of the Ax and the Mx make it possible to “compensate” to a large extent for this lack of data collection. The software can thus infer by calculation what previously required processing of the user’s data.
