Android Auto gets huge update with design makeover

Google rolls out a major update for Android Auto. The new version of the in-car system brings a new interface makeover. This makes it easier for the driver to navigate, control your music and communicate.

New Android Auto update

Android Auto has continued to grow in recent years. More and more cars have support for Android Auto (and Apple CarPlay) in their multimedia system. Earlier, Apple presented a sleek new design for the new Apple Carplay, now Android Auto follows. The new design was first highlighted during Google I/O last year, and now the rollout of the new version has started. But what’s new?

The new design in Android Auto brings a split screen layout, allowing you to control more things at the same time. In this way you can have both the media player for Spotify, for example, together with the Google Maps navigation, or another service. A welcome improvement, where this was not previously possible with Android Auto. So users no longer have to leave the map to search for a song or view a message.

This is new

According to Google, the new screen layout is suitable for every car, which means that the car manufacturer does not have to make any adjustments. With the new quick menu you have quick access to the recently used applications, and the new media player card has a Material You sauce, as we know it from Android on the phone. There is also support for the Google Assistant, which can also offer smart suggestions. For example, you can get a reminder of a missed call or you can quickly share the arrival time of your ride with someone. There is also a progress bar for moving forward in a podcast or track. With the new models from the Samsung and Pixel series, it will soon be possible to make calls via WhatsApp, via Android Auto.

Another new feature that we have already heard about is the digital car key. This functionality is already available for Pixels and iPhone models, but it is also coming to Samsung and Xiaomi users. For now you can use the digital car key on BMW cars, although the number of brands will be expanded in the future.
