iPhone 13 always on screen: the advantages at a glance
We are learning more and more about the 2021 iPhone: the iPhone 13 (or iPhone 12S). The device would be the first iPhone to get a screen that is always on, as we also know from the Apple Watch Series 5 and newer. We are enthusiastic about it for these six reasons.
1. Clock and battery percentage displayed
The main function of an iPhone 13 with an always on screen will be to display the clock and battery percentage. Instead of a black screen, you can always see what time it is, without picking up or touching your iPhone.
Handy if you place the device next to you on the table or have it in a charging stand. If we look at Android phones, this is also the main way in which this screen is used.
2. Always keep an eye on notifications
Another advantage of an always on screen is that you can see if any notifications from apps have arrived. For privacy reasons, you will undoubtedly be able to shield it so that you can read its contents properly when the iPhone is actually unlocked. One way in which this can be displayed is, for example, an app icon that appears on the screen of the app that sends a notification.
3. Smart interactive notifications
Several Android manufacturers have already done some smart things with this screen that is never really off. This is how Motorola came up with interactive notifications. These appear on your always on screen and can be activated by briefly pressing your finger on them. As soon as this happens, the always on screen will be converted to your normal display and you can immediately see and respond to the notification in the app. Ideal for messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal.
4. New always on widgets
With iOS 14, Apple introduced widgets for your home screen: mini versions of apps that you can give a permanent place. We hope that Apple will also find a way to expand these widgets and make them available on this new screen. For example, we immediately think of an Activity widget, with which you can see three colored rings at a glance that you still have to fill.
Mail apps can also show how many unread mails you have in a smart and minimalist way. Or task apps that show with a small icon which tasks still need to be completed today.
5. Better for your battery life?
An iPhone 13 where the screen is always on: that of course affects the battery life. But it doesn’t have to be bad for the overall life of your iPhone battery. Just add up how many times a day you pick up or tap your iPhone to see if you have any missed notifications, or to see what time it is.
Every time you do this, the screen must be activated, while an always on screen in its dimmed state consumes much less power. It will not surprise us that with fewer activations of your device you will end the day with a higher battery percentage than you are used to.
6. Disguise the inconvenience of Face ID
Face ID is very useful and safe, but can be quite annoying sometimes if your iPhone is just out of range. Hanging over it with your face to quickly read a notification is not ideal. With a screen that is always on, you can reduce some of these unlock times, which also reduces the inconvenience that Face ID sometimes causes.
