What Czech games should you not miss in 2021 -apkrig

At the very beginning of 2021, several interesting Czech titles appeared, and we have already dealt with some of them in the Vortex. At the end of January, the retro shooter HROT made its entry into the preliminary approach on Steam, which we celebrated with a nutritious stream. You could also read a review of Nebuchadnezzar’s strategy from the developers of Nepos Games, which will be released on February 17th. However, this is far from all that was enough to take place during the beginning of the new year in the Czech game basin, and we have other great tips for games from domestic developers for you, which you should definitely not miss during 2021.

Monolithic

The fantasy RPG of endless possibilities called Monolisk from the Trickster Arts studio, which was originally released on a mobile device in 2019 and can even boast the Czech Game of the Year award in the game design category, was released on PC on February 4. The versions are no different, and just like on a mobile phone, it offers players to tell their own stories and build levels for other players thanks to a comprehensive map editor. It will please easy operation and it will also attract interesting lowpoly styling. The game is available for free, so nothing stands in the way of equipping your heroes, discovering dungeons, fighting monsters and creating your own new content.

Promising Expedition Zero and Happy Game

As part of the Steam Game Festival, the horror survival game Expedition Zero, set in Siberia, presented its demo. In the role of the last survivor, it is necessary to use their technical skills and use crafting instead of fighting to defeat the creatures and reveal the truth about the expedition. Of course, the demo games Happy Game by Jaromír Plachý and Amanita Design did not escape worldwide attention. It does not deny the previous Plahy plays Botanicula and Chuchel and the overall style of Amanity, although the game, with its horror theme, moves away from the previous works of the award-winning Czech studio. Unfortunately, the festival and therefore the possibility to try the demo version have already ended, and if you did not manage to get Happy Game, you will have to wait for the release of the full version, which is scheduled for this spring.

Freedom 1945

The expected adventure Svoboda 1945 from Charles Games is also heading for release, although the exact date is not yet known. He follows in the footsteps of the previous award-winning title Attentat 1942 (among other things, the award Best Game at the German festival A MAZE at a time when the game was still banned in Germany due to Nazi symbols, and the Czech Game of 2017), which was developed under the University Charles and the Academy of Sciences, but this time the players are waiting to reveal details about what is happening on the Czech-German border and the expulsion of the Germans.

More games under the auspices of Charles Games

The establishment of Charles Games’ own studio opened up new possibilities for not only developing but also supporting other creators. One such case is the 2D cooperation shooter Silicomrades from the team Outside the Fox. The game from the environment of robotic bureaucracy was originally created as part of teaching at Matfyz and was also awarded the student prize at the Czech Game in 2019. However, its creators decided to continue development and the story of the robotic uprising against bureaucracy should arrive in the first quarter of 2021. Eva Nečasová also collaborates with Charles Games, thanks to which she was able to return to the development of her game The Legend of the Spirit Bird. The artist Petra Valouchová adds a special artistic style to this adventure, but there is no information about its publication yet.

Empire: Greek Wars

In early February, the creators of Kube Games unveiled the upcoming DLC for the 4X strategy Imperiums: Greek Wars with the subtitle Age of Alexander, in which players will have the opportunity to continue the line of Philip II. Macedonian and by playing for his son further spread the glory of Macedonia. New functions and game procedures will also be used for this, which will test not only military and political abilities. The DLC is due to be released in the second quarter of this year.

A Knight Never Yields

The interesting experimental 3D platformer A Knight Never Yields from Bread Over Games knows its release date – we will see it on February 25th. The game works with the element of absolute loss of sight, where the player goes through the level with his knight in the classic way and then tries to do so only thanks to the hustle and bustle, music and especially their rhythm. This is one of the reasons why Petr Růžička, who is behind the whole game, warns that the game is not for everyone, as it is necessary to prepare for repeated failures due to set traps and obstacles waiting for the blind knight inside the castle and in seventeen levels.

The offer does not end

It is clear that a number of other titles will appear or be specified during the year. The preliminary approach should be abandoned by the dark fantasy 4X strategy of The Mystic, or by a post-apocalyptic strategy with adventurous elements of Extinction Protocol or iCorp, focusing on the establishment and management of one’s own company. We could also look forward to the Archgate MMORPG VR, which has recently started smaller tests. Question marks on the release dates then hover over the soulslike RPG LostHero, which we haven’t heard about for a long time, the isometric action adventure 1428: Shadows over Silesia or the sci-fi FPS TauCeti Unknown Origin, which do not yet have a set release date and it is uncertain whether some we will see some of them this year. However, we know for sure that, thanks to the support of the players, Pankrác will arrive again at the end of the year with its next sequel in the form of Poldy 7, which we recently showed in a special stream with its author. So the year 2021 definitely experienced an interesting start in terms of Czech games, and we look forward to announcing more titles despite the need to wait patiently.
