Tetris on Apple TV Plus: 4 reasons to look forward to it

More and more video game adaptations will be released in the coming years, because superhero comics are not an inexhaustible source of inspiration. The fact that games can also produce good films or series proves it is incredibly good The Last of Us now on HBO Max.

You can watch the movie Tetris starring Taron Egerton on Apple TV+ from the end of March. You know, that old game where blocks of different shapes fall down and you have to position them neatly. Now Egerton is muscular enough to play one of these blocks, but the film takes a different tack.

1. A good story with a Dutch edge

Tetris is one of the most famous games of all time, but few people know the history behind it. And that while it is a super exciting story. Exciting enough for a full evening movie.

Tetris was invented in 1984 by Russian scientist Alexey Pajitnov and quickly became a hit. First with his colleagues, but then throughout the Soviet Union. Pajitnov initially did not want to make money from the game, but made it so that people would have fun.

The game made its way to Europe and America via PCs, but it was Dutchman Henk Rogers (played by Taron Egerton) who made the connection with Nintendo.

This results in a battle for rights, in which the Soviet Union wants to keep things in its own hands. The charismatic Rogers, on the other hand, wants to bundle Tetris with the Game Boy. And finally, there is the game company Atari that wants to make its own version of the game. Meanwhile, Pajitnov and Rogers become good friends.

2. Taron Egerton and his mustache

Actor Taron Egerton became known to the general public for his role in the Kingsman films, but since then he has shown that he is comfortable in all kinds of roles. This was mainly made clear by his starring role in the movie Rocketman, in which he plays Elton John. Egerton did so well that he was nominated for a BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild Award, among other things. On Apple TV+ you can know his work from the Black Bird series.

It is clear that Egerton is also going for the role of Henk Rogers for Tetris. You can see that mainly in his facial expressions and the way he talks, but that mustache also does a lot of work.

3. The rest of the cast

With the casting and make-up, a lot of effort has clearly gone into making the actors look like the people they play. In particular, Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi seems perfect, played by actor Togo Igawa.

4. The vibe in the trailer is already good

Apple recently published the first trailer for the film and we immediately have confidence in the result. The vibe is right. From the digital elements that are interwoven through the images to the music that you also know from the game. The eighties are back in full force. The cgi of the tanks… we’re not talking about that right now.
