YouTube has announced that it will end a test that will require users to pay for watching 4K videos. Recently, an experiment was done by the video service. It has now stopped.

End of trial for 4K on YouTube

YouTube recently made headlines with a new experiment being conducted. Several groups of users were tested with charging for watching videos in 4K. This is then done in the form of a subscription to YouTube Premium. For this you pay 11.99 euros per month in the Netherlands. This subscription form offers various advantages for the avid YouTube user, including ad-free viewing. Watching 4K content could therefore also be one of those advantages.

The video service has now announced that the experiment has stopped, and that every user can watch content in 4K at no extra cost. The reason for the discontinuation of the test has not been disclosed. It is not inconceivable that it has led to resistance from users. It is currently unclear whether YouTube will definitively keep 4K accessible for free, or whether it will come back after all.
