The requirements for apps in the App Store are strict; yet, malicious apps occasionally seep in. Recently, there were 10 adware apps available for download – security specialists found.
Apple has since removed them from the App Store, but it’s good to check if one of the apps is on your iPhone. These are the discovered iPhone apps with adware:
- Loot the Castle
- Run Bridge
- Shinning Gun
- Racing Legend 3D
- Rope Runner
- Wood Sculptor
- Fire Wall
- Ninja Critical Hit
- Tony Runs
If you happen to have downloaded one of the apps, the best way to deal with the adware is to simply uninstall the app from your iPhone.
Is it harmful?
Unlike other forms of malware, adware is not that harmful. They mainly flood you with questionable advertisements. The apps tell you how to miraculously lose weight, reveal how to get rich quick, or redirect you to a spicy website. The software may also collect user data for marketing purposes.
The rogue apps were discovered by the Satori Threat Intelligence team. They found 85 adware apps. Ten are in Apple’s App Store and the other 75 can be found on Google Play. Together, the apps have been downloaded more than 13 million times. The Satori team had informed Google and Apple of their findings and the apps have been removed from the official Android and iOS store. So you can no longer download them.
