Year 2021 in O2. What did the operator do?

New locations with 5G connection, active fight with hoaxes or an effort to support the mental and physical health of Slovaks. This is what the year 2021 looked like at one of the largest Slovak operators, O2.

Construction of 5G continues

The operator continued to build a 5G network this year after choosing Ericsson as its partner in February. While in October 2020 O2 opened the 5G network in four selected parts of Bratislava, at the beginning of September this year it has access to 5G another 15 locations. On this occasion, O2 also decided to allow customers of selected O2 SMART Packages to activate double the volume of data by the end of January 2022.

Fight hoaxes and fraud

In the world on the Internet, more and more threats lurk in the form of misinformation or hoaxes. O2 decided to fight this problem and in its May campaign used a deepfake video with presenter Zlatica Švajdová Puškárová, which wanted to draw attention to the need to verify information. The fight later continued in the summer, with a total of O2 Fair Foundation set aside 60,000 euros for this purpose.

In addition to hoaxes, the operator also wants to spin with unsolicited calls. Therefore, at the end of May, he launched his own register Nevolajtemi.sk, where anyone can verify an unknown number or report a suspicious call.

Mental and physical health support

This year, O2 also focused on supporting the mental and physical health of Slovaks. In February, he became one of the founding members of the Coalition of Mental Health Companies, which aims to support the mental health of employees. The O2 Fair Foundation has again decided to support the stalsato.sk project, which responded to the documentary In the Network showing the pitfalls lurking for children in the world of the Internet.

O2, in cooperation with the Matej Tóth Sports Academy, decided to create two series of instructional videos called Telesná na doma, which gave children the opportunity to move even during a pandemic.
