Windows 10 is finished: Microsoft draws the line

Microsoft is in an aggressive mood: After Windows 11 was released, the company is doing everything it can to persuade users of older Windows versions to switch. Microsoft is now going one step further and publicly announcing that there will be no further feature updates for Windows 10.

No more feature updates for Windows 10

Support for Windows 10 will not officially expire until October 2025, but Microsoft already has one official blog entry announced that they will no longer provide new feature updates for Windows 10 with immediate effect. Version 22H2 is the last major version that Microsoft will make available to all users. For the remaining 2.5 years, however, monthly security updates for Windows 10 will continue to be made available:

“The current release, 22H2, will be the last release of Windows 10 and all editions will be supported with monthly security updates until that date.”

This should be a hard blow for most users. Because according to the latest Steam hardware and software survey still put today around 61.2 percent on Windows 10, while just 33.4 percent have made the leap to Windows 11. Since Microsoft’s new OS regularly gets on the nerves of many users, this is not exactly surprising.

Microsoft recommends all users switch to Windows 11

Microsoft gives all users who are still working with Windows 10 the simple tip switch to Windows 11 as soon as possibleto continue receiving feature updates.

Businesses that need to continue working with Windows 10 are advised to do so if possible to update all systems to version 22H2 in a timely manner. Because only this version will be provided with security updates until October 14, 2025.

With a few tricks, Windows 11 also runs on old PCs. In the video we show you how to install the new OS on an old computer:

Good to know: Rumors are currently piling up that say that already Windows 12 could be launched next year. However, there has not yet been an official confirmation from Microsoft (source: TweakTown).
