Who comes on the cover?

As every year, a new football simulation from EA Sports is in the starting blocks. As the life cycle of FIFA 21 draws to a close, many players wonder who will be on the cover of FIFA 22? In the following we will tell you which superstar graces the cover of FIFA 22.

FIFA 22 – cover star for all editions

As for FIFA 21, the young French superstar Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint-Germain, one of the greatest talents, graces the cover of FIFA 22. As with its predecessor, Kylian Mbappé adorns the cover for all versions of the game. In the gallery below you can see the cover of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and the Ultimate Edition. However, the release date of FIFA 22 is currently unknown. Most likely, the fans will receive new information about this at the “EA Play Live” event on July 22, 2021.

However, many fans also had other preferred candidates for the cover, including Robert Lewandowski. With 41 goals in one season, the Pole is now the sole record scorer in the Bundesliga. Thus he broke the record of Gerd Müller, the “bomber”, who scored 40 goals in the 1971/72 season. A brand that has existed for almost half a century and has so far appeared untouchable. Lewandowski was also voted World Footballer of the Year in December 2020. That he is not on the cover, however, was relatively clear, as FC Bayern Munich has negotiated an ongoing partnership with Konami and their PES series.

In addition, many also thought that Erling Haaland would have been a hot contender. The young Norwegian is the absolute shooting star of the last year and has quickly become world famous for his goals and penetration. The Borussia Dortmund striker was therefore a conceivable candidate for the cover. Mainly because EA Sports has already placed the youngster prominently in FIFA 21 in different locations.

Kylian Mbappé’s last season at a glance

Kylian Mbappé has not lost any of his star power and, although things did not go too well for the young French at the European Championship, as the French national team were eliminated in the round of 16 against Switzerland on penalties and Mbappé missed the decisive penalty, a total of 27 goals in 31 Score league games. In his 47 competitive games for PSG there were even 42 hits. Personally, he played a very good season, even if the team did not succeed, both nationally and internationally. Paris Saint-Germain only managed to win one title (Tropée des Champions) this year, which is pretty little for the club’s ambitions.

It remains to be seen whether Mbappé can start a streak of numerous cover appearances, like Lionel Messi once did, which was seen four times in a row on the cover of the football simulation in the past. Mbappé already has two consecutive appearances as a cover athlete.
