This is going to change according to the latest reports. WhatsApp is working on an option where you can leave a message while the person’s voice message continues. At the top of the screen you will then see a bar containing the audio player, where you can pause or stop the audio message. This function can come in handy especially with the longer voice messages.

Voice messages are getting more and more attention on WhatsApp. Recently, the ability to play voice messages faster has already been added. The new audio player is under development; It is not known when it will be widely rolled out.
