What to watch during your Christmas holidays
A lockdown and a Christmas break. That can only mean one thing: plenty of time left to watch TV.
In the past you had to get out to get a video tape, or later a DVD. That wasn’t even that long ago, by the way. But developments are moving fast, nowadays we all have a subscription with one of the streaming services. With the lockdown and a Christmas holiday you can sit down for a while!
Watching during your Christmas holidays
Let’s not consider the ‘usual suspects’ such as Casa or The Witcher for now. You have already looked at them or are on your shortlist. We’ve listed other contenders to get on that list below.
For All Mankind
Apple TV is steadily getting more users in the Netherlands. The series are also getting better on this channel and that is why For All Mankind cannot be missed. This is one of the first series of Apple TV and has evolved from a mildly intriguing alternative history story – what if the Soviet Union landed first on the moon? – on one of the greatest dramas ever made about space travel.
hawkeye
The range of Marvel series is large. Yet they keep coming up with surprising new series. Hawkeye is also worth a look. Clint Barton has never been the most interesting Avenger, but he’s fantastic as the defender of Kate Bishop, a brave arrow-throwing protege. The series may not reach the height of Loki, for example, but it’s always better than the expert-voted disappointment Falcon v. Winter Soldier.
Arcane
This is a League of Legends TV show and runs on Netflix. Arcane has well-written characters, a beautifully realized fantasy world, and lush animation. While there are some great action scenes, this is what really makes Arcane. You have to like the style. But the characters you love will die. Villains are never monotonous and heroes are never perfect. Not only is it a solid video game adaptation, it’s also one of the best TV shows to debut this year.
