‘We used to go to adults only resorts, now I’m in the ball pit’
If Mila (2) is dancing with chocolate sauce on her leg, the holiday of influencer Mascha Feoktistova (36) is a success. And she doesn’t look at an ice cream more or less.
In the Kek Mama Zomerboek she talks about a family holiday, which is very different from the past.
“I used to not understand it, parents who shouted that their holiday was good ‘as long as their child had fun’. Gregor and I always went to those adults only resorts. Nowadays I’m already in the ball pit at nine in the morning. I select my holiday destinations for child-friendly activities, otherwise I don’t think it’s worth it.”
Education is also letting go
“Gregor and I aren’t super strict: we don’t have a specific screen time and if Mila doesn’t like something, she doesn’t have to eat it. Funnily enough, that works well: she often puts the iPad away herself after fifteen minutes and likes almost everything. In the summer we loosen things up a bit more: then Mila goes to bed an hour later and she can eat more often. At first I was stricter about that, afraid to give Mila something unhealthy. Nowadays I don’t deprive her of things – I don’t want her to have a disturbed relationship with food later on. So we get an ice cream or waffle if she feels like it.

I don’t pay much attention to clothes in the summer. Yes, I want her to look nice, but when I see Mila dancing in just her diaper, with chocolate sauce dripping down her leg and hair that’s tousled, I think: this is how vacation should be.”
