This week’s 5 best iPhone apps and games (#32 – 2021)

Taking better photos with your iPhone, an exciting AirPods game and how good are you as an army general? That and more in this weekly roundup of the best iPhone apps and games from last week.

Read on after the ad.

1. Super Leap Day

Super Leap Day is not very deep, but it is addictive. Every day you will be presented with a new level. Unique is that you can play the game with one finger. There is only one button in the game. You have to jump at the right time, but the figure runs automatically.

The story is clearly made up later, because the plot is paper thin. Basically you have to try to reach the top every level because there is a golden cup here. That’s easier said than done, because the game throws all kinds of obstacles your way.

2. Twitter

Twitter has been given a fresh look last week. The social media app has received a new font and colors, among other things. The old familiar Twitter blue has given way to a more contrasting color palette. For example, many buttons are now black, while they used to be blue.

There is a lot to like about the new font: called Chirp. Twitter has rolled out the font to make the app more ‘accessible’, but some find the font childish. We think Chirp is funny: what about you?

3. Axis & Allies 1942

Play war, but on the iPad. That’s Axis & Allies 1942 in a nutshell. The digital version of Hasbro’s board game came out for the tablet last week, after the game was already available on the computer. Axis & Allies 1942 puts you at the helm of an army during World War II.

You can lead British, American, Japanese or Germans to victory, among others. You take turns moving your armies across the playing field. Try to work tactically, because by attacking the enemy from the flank, for example, you increase your chances of victory. Axis & Allies 1942 can also be played online and the Android version will be released later this year.

4. Neura Shot

With the standard iPhone Camera app you can already take very nice photos, but with Neurashot you go a step further. The app is packed with extra options to make your shots even more beautiful – if you know what you’re doing. Novice photographers may find Neurashot a bit overwhelming.

For example, the app has an option to zoom in in high resolution. Normally the photo quality drops when you get images closer, but with Neurashot it is actually not that bad. Also cool: the option to slow down the shutter speed. In this way, the camera captures more light and you can create all kinds of cool effects.

5. PairPlay Adventures

We conclude with a very original iPhone app. PairPlay Adventures is a true audio adventure for two. All you need is a set of AirPods. Both partners put in an earplug and get to hear completely opposite sides of a story.

Then an epic story unfolds in the middle of your living room. Secret agents, ghost hunters to robots: everything is included. PairPlay Adventures is typically one of those iPhone app that you simply have to experience to really understand it.
