Vortex zombie mode disappeared from Battlefield 2042 after just one day

Recent reports of Battlefield 2042 do not indicate that everything is in order with the game and its gradual development and improvement. Although only speculation has emerged in the past week, Bloomberg has indicated that Electronic Arts is dissatisfied with the outcome of the game and is apparently considering moving some parts of the game to the free to play model. However, even the new content, which is added to the game with the help of DICE and the Los Angeles branch of Ripple Effect Studios (formerly DICE LA, ed. Note), does not fulfill its function perfectly and in the case of zombie mode it was even removed one single day after its launch. The reason is the problems with gaining experience, which also suffered from the Sandbox mode of Portal, and players are rightly asking how something like this could have passed the process of testing and evaluation on the game economy.

At a distance, one of the designers, Justin Wibe, answers on Twitter, who tried to explain over the weekend what exactly failed the zombies and what will need to be changed in the future. “We removed the zombie mode and replaced it with the Gun Game mode. We hope that we will be able to fix everything and keep the allocation of experience in line with the rest of the game, “Wibe commented on the main steps of the developers. He also indicated that the studio has tightened the process of internal evaluation of individual game builds and wants to ensure that similar incidents do not happen in the future. What is striking, however, is Wibe’s next response to a specific player who is interested in the reaction to the not-so-warm acceptance of the described mode by the players.

“I think the regime has had potential, but it needs to go back in time. Regardless, we need to focus on more important things, such as improving the experience allocation for the Battlefield Portal, ”said Wibe, raising the ground for further questions. So why did zombie mode even arise? Why was it put into sharp operation when it simply didn’t work? And why don’t developers do their best to fix the Portal and make it what it seemed to be when it was unveiled – the ultimate Battlefield experience across all episodes that have ever been released? “I will not lie to you, this should never have passed our testing. I think our desire to create a fun mode with zombies has obscured our ability to see such simple things as the impact on the distribution of experience, “says Wibe, and in other tweets he apologizes to the players for the inconvenience.

However, it is worth noting that in the mentioned Portal mode, the changes started to take effect when the developers from DICE introduced last week and set three levels for full or partial allocation of XP according to the settings of the specific game created. If you use one of the ready modes, you will get all the experience and you can also meet the weekly challenges. If you create your own game but do not modify the power of the occupants and the health of the soldiers, the limit will come to 300 XP per minute, but it will still be possible to use this experience for weekly challenges and other associated rankings. However, the moment you involve a logic editor on the web and all the other advanced tools – especially soldiers’ health and damage damage – you get nothing but 300 XP per minute from your game. This is the way in which DICE wants to defend itself against the so-called farming experience, which concerned the Portal and, unfortunately, also related to zombies. At this point, therefore, there is nothing left but to wait for the developers to treat the problem and whether – or in what form – the zombies will return to the game.
