Viaplay can now be linked to your Google Assistant

Viaplay subscribers will receive a notification from the Google Home app at this time. They can link their Viaplay account to their Google account. As soon as the link is established, in combination with a Chromecast and a Google Nest speaker (or by means of another speaker or smart display with the Google Assistant), they can use voice commands to play Viaplay on their television.

Viaplay customers currently receive the following message when they open the Google Home app on their phone: ”Google Assistant wants to link to your account. In order for the Google Assistant to work, it must be linked to your account on Viaplay” and ”Link your Viaplay account. Link your Google account to Viaplay to play content on compatible devices.”

By linking your Viaplay account to your Google account in the Google Home app, you can control Viaplay with your voice via a Chromecast. For example, you can have a new episode play on Viaplay by saying: ”Hey Google, play the next episode”. It also becomes possible, if you are tired of the bloody scenes of the series ‘Spartacus’, for example, to fast forward an episode five minutes with your voice.

How do I link Viaplay to my Google account?

To link Viaplay to your Google account, you must first ensure that your smartphone, your Chromecast and your Google Nest speaker (or another speaker with Google Assistant) are on the same WiFi network. If so, tap your account in the Google Home app at the top right. Check here whether you have linked the correct Google account, i.e. the account to which your speaker or Chromecast is connected. Then go to the start screen and click on ‘Add’ (top left) and then ‘Video’. Link the app here and follow the login steps. If you don’t like it after a while, you can always unlink Viaplay again.

On March 1, 2022, the Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) officially rolled out Viaplay in the Netherlands. On this sports platform you can watch, among other things, F1, darts, the Bundesliga and the Premier Leaque. The streaming service also offers various series such as ‘Spartacus’ and ‘The Bridge’.

Viaplay also supplies an app. This app is available for Android smartphones and tablets and therefore also works in combination with a Chromecast and various smart TVs.
