Users should soon be able to issue their own NFTs on Twitter

In recent years, the majority of people have split into two groups: those who see the future in cryptocurrencies and digital objects (something NFTs) and those who see many things that begin with the word “crypto” as unnecessary. Twitter now seems to be jumping on the trend.

An announcement now shows that in the future an entire tab will be made available to present one’s own NFT collection, the new functionality has been in development since September. For all those who are not that deep into the matter: NFTs are digital objects that are unique and therefore cannot be copied or duplicated from A to B.

In order for the self-presentation on Twitter to start, the user must first connect his crypto wallet to the service. Initially, well-known providers such as Coinbase or Metamask are to be supported; after the connection, the NFTs are to be automatically synchronized with the short message service.

The new tab with the name “Collectibles” shows you all your digital achievements, profile pictures that depict an NFT receive an extra badge. A later version should then be able to navigate through the individual collectibles in more detail and a view with the details will be available.

It remains to be seen to what extent the new feature will prevail among users and why Twitter is placing the new functionality so prominently. The platform has been struggling with other problems for some time, such as the spread of fake news, but the tool in the fight against such content “Birdwatch” can only be found via submenus.

It is therefore questionable how long NFTs can be seen on the platform or whether you will drive the cart in the sand in the long term. A change of priorities would suit the network better, after all correct information is more important than any digital images.
