Use FaceTime on Windows: Here’s how

With FaceTime, iPhone, iPad and Mac users can make video calls on their Apple device for free. What about FaceTime for Windows? Can users also participate in conversations via the app from their PC?

FaceTime is offered by Apple and is only available as an application exclusively for Apple devices. The video chat app can be used with the iPhone (iPhone 4 or higher), iPod Touch (4G or higher), iPad (iPad 2 or higher) and Mac (OSX v10.6.6 or higher). The video calls can also be used across platforms using various Apple devices. If you want to take part in a FaceTime call with a Windows PC, you can only do so in a roundabout way.

FaceTime for Windows: does it exist?

Apple does not offer a FaceTime app specially developed for Windows. However, since iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 and macOS 12, iPhone and iPad users can Invite contacts on the Windows PC to video calls. Windows users then do not use an app, but join the video call via a link in the browser. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are supported. A webcam and microphone are required. The FaceTime link must be created on the iPhone or iPad. It works like this:

  1. After opening FaceTime, on iPhone and iPad, you can select “create link” choose.
  2. The link is then shared with the Windows user, for example via a messenger or email.
  3. The Windows user now calls the linkto join the FaceTime call.
  4. First of all, a name be entered.
  5. After clicking on “Continue”, the browser must have the Access to the camera and microphone be granted.
  6. Then it continues with “To join“.
  7. The creator of the FaceTime link then starts the video call.

A link can be used multiple times when starting a group conversation in FaceTime. There are also no costs for Windows users. Windows users can only join via a link and cannot start their own video call. This still requires an iOS, iPadOS or macOS device.

In iOS 15, some additional features were introduced in FaceTime, which Apple presents in the video here:
