TomTom is rowing back: price increase is being withdrawn

In some cases, TomTom wanted to increase the subscription prices for its navigation app for Android and iOS massively. Now the provider is rowing back. But customers still have to pay more.

Update, December 11th, 2021: According to iPhone ticker TomTom is now rowing back – at least a little. The subscription prices are indeed becoming more expensive, but the navigation provider refrains from horrific surcharges. The 1-month subscription now costs EUR 3.99 per month, the 6-month subscription EUR 11.99 and the annual subscription EUR 19.99. The annual license for families costs 25.99 euros. In some cases this is still significantly more than before (see below), but the price premium is no longer quite as massive.

How to get even more out of Google Maps:

Are smartphone users turning their backs on TomTom?

A few months ago, Stiftung Warentest recognized the TomTom Go app as the best navigation app for Android users. It wasn’t enough to win on the iPhone, but it was one of the top places. In view of the dramatic increase in subscription prices, however, many smartphone users are likely to turn their backs on TomTom and rely on on-board tools such as Google Maps or Apple Maps.
