TikTok: the Senate inquiry committee will hear two leaders
The Senate committee of inquiry on TikTok will hear next Thursday two leaders of the Chinese social network, ultra-popular with young people, as can be read on his website.
The commission of inquiry will hear Thursday morning Eric Garandeau, director of public affairs for TikTok SAS. Then in the afternoon, Marlène Masure, General Manager of France, Benelux and Southern Europe Operations of TikTok SAS.
These hearings will be open to the press. In the case of a parliamentary commission of inquiry, the persons summoned are heard under oath. The commission also plans to hear on June 19 the Minister in charge of the Digital Transition and Telecommunications, Jean-Noël Barrot.
Created at the request of the group Les Indépendants, the senatorial commission of inquiry into the use of the social network, its use of data and its strategy of influence, should deliver its conclusions before the summer break of Parliament.
It has already heard from numerous experts, as well as MEPs Raphaël Glucksmann, chairman of the special committee on foreign interference in all democratic processes in the European Union, Nathalie Loiseau, chairman of the “Security and defence”, or Alain Bazot, president of the consumer association UFC-Que Choisir.
TikTok is under investigation in several countries and not just in France. The main problem comes from the use of data. Countries, such as the United States, claim that ByteDance, the Chinese company behind TikTok, collects data from user information to then share in the Chinese government. The social network has always denied.
