Three MacBook Air/Pro from 2014 will become obsolete for Apple
On April 30, Apple will add three 2014 MacBook Airs and Pros to its list of discontinued products, according to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors. All three laptops have already been on the legacy product list since 2020.
For Apple, its old MacBooks are now obsolete
Models that will become obsolete in Apple’s eyes are the 11-inch MacBook Air (Early 2014), 13-inch MacBook Air (Early 2014), and 13-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2014). According to the manufacturer, products are considered old when the company stopped marketing more than five years ago and less than seven years ago. Apple is ending all hardware repairs for outdated products, but the MacBooks discussed here may remain eligible for battery repairs in some countries for a limited time, according to the memo.
The 11-inch MacBook Air was discontinued after an Apple keynote in October 2016. This event was the occasion to welcome the first MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar. For its part, the 13-inch MacBook Air still exists and its last upgrade dates back to 2020 when Apple put in the M1 chip. According to the latest rumors, a MacBook Air should see the light of day in 2022 with a new design and the M2 chip. There would also be a 15-inch model, but that wouldn’t arrive until 2023.
