This is what the #SaveRedDeadOnline fuss is all about
The hashtag #SaveRedDeadOnline is trending very regularly, but what exactly are players complaining about?
GTA Online is still immensely popular almost a decade after its original release. Rockstar Games clearly continues to see the game as a gold mine, which means that new content is constantly being released. The same can’t be said about Red Dead Online… The online Red Dead Redemption 2 spinoff is dying and fans are fed up with it. What’s going on?

In recent weeks there has been a regular hashtag on Twitter trending and it reads: #SaveRedDeadOnline. The hashtag popped up by the way already early 2020 on. As the slogan suggests, fans feel like their favorite game is being let down. After the most recent update, the slogan flared up again; Rockstar Games would completely neglect the game.
To quantify that; GTA V received two major content updates in the past year. Again, the game is over 8 years old. Red Dead Online is only 2.5 years old and got a single content update last year.
Is the criticism justified?
Is that a fair criticism or are the players being a bit spoiled? The answer is obvious: Red Dead Online is definitely not getting the attention that GTA V gets. Whether that’s right from Rockstar’s point of view, we have to leave it up to you. It is not known how many players the game has.
What is clear is that the game leaves much more room for the player to experience his own story. GTA Online takes advantage of the absolute chaos and crowded world. Red Dead Online is inherently a lot less crowded, which makes the open world a bit calmer.
Lack of utility
But what the #SaveRedDeadOnline mostly criticizes is the lack of things to do outside of the open world. Missions should be frequent. Upgrades should give the player a sense of progression.
Instead, players must invest unprecedented amounts of time for seemingly useless rewards. And meanwhile, Rockstar continues to apply the ‘discount’ and ‘bonus’ formula to online items. Without giving the player a reason to care about this.
In short, it looks like fans of Red Dead Online don’t have much good stuff ahead of them. Unless Rockstar really listens, a game with relatively few players could not expect an unprecedented amount of content for it. As sinful as that is…
