Overview of reactions to messages on WhatsApp

WhatsApp will take inspiration from what Apple offers with iMessage with reactions to messages. Other messengers also offer it, including Telegram for a few weeks and Facebook with Messenger.

Soon reactions to messages on WhatsApp

WABetainfo shared screenshots of WhatsApp feedback, giving us a first look at what the feature will look like once it’s live. As can be seen, WhatsApp users will see a row of emojis just above the message. There are thumbs up, heart, crying laughing, surprised, sad, and folded hands emojis.

A priori, there is not an option to modify the list of emojis with regard to reactions. Users will have these five and nothing else. But WhatsApp can still make changes and possibly allow some control to choose the emojis one prefers.

WhatsApp plans to add reactions to messages in an upcoming beta update to the app for iOS and Android. There is no information yet for the availability for all with the stable version. Also, reactions will be encrypted end-to-end, as will messages and backups.
