The Berlin start-up Coffee Circle offers coffee in a subscription model. The company has also made it its task to support the people in the respective manufacturing countries. In the site portrait we take a look behind the scenes.

It is well known that not only the type and roast play a role in good coffee. The conditions under which the beans are grown and processed are also a decisive factor in terms of sustainability.

For many coffee lovers, the focus is also on the people involved in the production. That Berlin tech start-up Coffee Circle therefore not only wants to offer good coffee, but also create a value chain from which everyone involved should benefit.

Coffee Circle: Sustainable coffee in a subscription model

The Berlin start-up delivers the coffee directly to its customers’ homes. At the same time, the service is based on a subscription model that consumers can adapt to their individual needs. This means that the type of coffee, the quantity and the delivery times are flexible.

Supporting the communities in the coffee countries of origin

In addition, Coffee Circle is closed task made to improve the living conditions of the coffee farmers in the respective producing countries. For every kilo of coffee sold, one euro goes to education, health and coffee cultivation on site.

Since its founding, the start-up has also positioned itself as a social enterprise. Meanwhile, Coffee Circle has also received B Corp certification. However, the company does not only operate online. Since 2019, it has also been offering its products in a total of three cafés in different parts of Berlin.

This is how the coffee specialist Coffee Circle works

Martin Elwert founded the start-up in 2010 together with Robert Bach and Moritz Wadstein-Wartenberg. In order for the company to function both online and offline, 100 people from more than 25 countries now work for Coffee Circle. The heart of the company is in Berlin Wedding. The roastery, the office and one of the cafés are located there.
