It is one of the most requested features: Apple Carplay in a Tesla. An owner of a Tesla Model 3 has now managed to get Apple Carplay working in his car, but this was not without a struggle.

Apple CarPlay in a Tesla

Many Tesla car owners have been asking for it for years, but Apple CarPlay (and Apple Music) is still not available in the popular electric car. Tesla also has no plans to add it any time soon.

A Polish developer thought it took long enough and has now done something about it. Using a Raspberry Pi (a mini computer, not much bigger than a stack of credit cards) and the car’s built-in browser, he managed to get a fully working version of Apple Carplay into his Tesla. on Twitter you see the end result.

And that’s how it works

The Raspberry Pi uses a 4G modem and a WiFi dongle with a special firmware based on Android. Using the Tesla’s built-in browser, it then connects to the Rapsberry Pi and displays the Apple CarPlay interface. All apps work properly this way, including Apple Maps and Apple Music. Apple CarPlay also works while driving and the buttons on the steering wheel can also be used.

The developer now plans to improve the Wi-Fi connection and thus optimize the stream. He goes on to say that his project is still in development, but that he will make his solution available to everyone when it’s ready.
