These are the nominations – and this is how you can stream them

“And the Oscar goes to …”: In order to continue this famous sentence, the Oscars Academy has to choose from a number of nominations. The Oscars in 2023 will be awarded in 23 categories. We roll out the red carpet – for the nominated people, films, pieces of music and, and, and.

Hollywood’s shining and rising stars and starlets gather at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023. Then the 95th Oscars ceremony takes place – Jimmy Kimmel hosts the event.

What Oscar nominations can we hope for in 2023 when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the film industry’s most well-known award?

Oscars 2023 Stream: The highlights among the nominations

The year 2022 wrote a new Academy Award story: “Coda” was the first film from a streaming service (Apple) to receive the coveted trophy in the top category (“Best Film”). Apple TV Plus’ strategy of focusing on its own originals has paid off.

A big surprise was Will Smith’s slap in the face to moderator Chris Rock last year. It is still in the stars what the Oscars 2023 will bring us. The fact is: the nominations are not really surprising, but a German participation definitely stands out.

The war drama “Nothing New in the West” hopes for nine Oscars and is celebrating a premiere: Never before has a German production been nominated for best film. In addition, there will be eight more Oscar nominations in 2023, including in the category “Best International Film”.

These are the Oscars 2023 favorites

These films are among the favorites of the 95th Academy Awards:

  • Everything Everywhere All At Once
  • The Banshees Of Inisherin
  • The Fabelmans
  • Tar

Michelle Yeoh plays Evelyn Wang in the Oscar-winning sci-fi drama Everything Everywhere All At Once. After receiving a Golden Globe for her performance, among others, she is also one of the nominees in the category “Best Actress” at the Oscars 2023 – as the first actress of Asian descent.

Once again, only men are nominated in the directing category – that is striking. Criticism for this hails, for example, under the hashtag #OscarsSoMale.

The fact that there are no people of color among the nominees for best leading actor is also part of the accusation that the Oscars – once again – do not focus enough on equality.

King category and the other best films

The award for best film is the undisputed crowning achievement. Since 2010, there have been ten nominations to choose from in the most important category. That’s why mainstream movies are popping up here too – like the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick (Paramount Plus), which is nominated for Best Picture at the 2023 Oscars.

Interesting: While the appropriate Academy members of the respective category usually decide (actors choose actors and so on), all members have a voting right for the king category.
