Read on after the ad.

iCloud Plus is an affordable and convenient way to store all kinds of files. So you don’t need extra storage on your device. In addition, iCloud Plus is accessible via any Apple device, so you always have all your files at hand – regardless of the device you use. In this article you can read how you can get more out of your iCloud Plus subscription and which extra features you get.

How much storage space do you need

What is iCloud without storage? You only get 5GB of empty space with the standard free iCloud plan. Blink once and your online storage is already full.

Fortunately, iCloud Plus comes with varying amounts of storage space. The more memory you need, the more you pay monthly. Below we have listed the memory options and prices for you:

  • 50GB: €0.99 per month
  • 200GB: €2.99 per month
  • 2TB: €9.99 per month

As you can see the prices are not sky high. You may also fill 50GB of iCloud Plus storage fairly quickly, but with 200GB you can probably go ahead for a long time. On an annual basis you are only for this 36 euros lost – a great deal, as far as we’re concerned.

Before you sign up for an iCloud Plus subscription, check what you want to use the storage for. For example, Pages or Word files take up little space, so you may be fine with 50GB. Do you store a lot of photos and videos in the cloud? Then more online storage is definitely recommended.

Browse securely with Private Transfer

With Private Relay (in English the feature is called Private Relay), surfing the web is safer than ever. It works like a VPN of sorts. This means that your internet traffic goes through a strict encryption, so that no one can see which websites you visit. That way, your IP address, location and other sensitive internet data are protected. You turn on Private Transfer as follows:

Private Transfer iCloud Plus
  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad;
  2. Tap your name;
  3. Go to the ‘iCloud’ heading and tap on it
  4. Look for the heading ‘Private transfer’

You can actually think of Private Relay as a permanent private tab in Safari, which is much more active and secure. The feature is still in beta at the time of writing, so it doesn’t always run smoothly. For example, you cannot log in with your DigiD if you have Private Transfer turned on. In that case you can (temporarily) switch off the function. Do you use Google Chrome? Then you are fishing next to the net anyway; Private forwarding only works in Safari.

Hide your email address or create your own domain

Apple takes privacy very seriously. That’s why there’s the Hide my email address feature. You can use this to create a random e-mail address at any time, which is linked to your own personal e-mail. This way, companies or other recipients will never find out your real e-mail address, so that you are less likely to be bombarded with spam e-mails. So very handy.

iCloud mail

Want even more control over your email address? Apple gives you even more functions with iCloud Plus and lets you use your own domain name, for example. This is the word that appears after the at sign in your email address. For example, you can use your last name or the name of your sole proprietorship.

It is important to know: you cannot directly create a domain at Apple itself. It is hosted elsewhere. So you can only link other domains to your iCloud Plus account with the function.

More about Apple’s iCloud

iCloud is Apple’s online storage service that was introduced in 2011. Hundreds of millions of people use the storage service, which allows you to sync documents, contacts, emails, calendars, reminders, photos, and other files. That way you can always access your files and they are safely stored online, even if your Apple device crashes.
