The new USB-C logos are designed to make life easier for users. However, they are confusing

You know it. Getting to know the cables we have at home can sometimes really work. Fortunately, the world has reached a stage where the vast majority is dominated by the USB-C connector. It is reliable, fast and practically trouble-free. The only exception in the world of smartphones is Apple. But it will soon ring. The USB-C logo theme was developed by Businesswire.

Only yesterday, new logos were announced, which should make the difficult situation easier for users. Because USB-C is not like USB-C. The new logos will basically distinguish three certified types of connectors:

  • USB4 certified (40 Gbps)
  • Certified 240 W USB-C cable
  • Certified USB 240 W charger

The new USB-C logo will also be on the packaging of cables and chargers

The logos will vary depending on the cable package and the illustration on the cable (connector) itself. The certified USB-C 240 W charger will have the logo only on the package. The USB-C, which combines USB-C and 240 W, will also have a separate logo. These logos contain information on baud rates as well as charging power.

“With our updated logos, users can easily identify USB4 performance and USB-C-certified USB power options that support an ever-expanding ecosystem of consumer electronics from laptops and smartphones to displays and chargers.”

Jeff Ravencraft, President and Chief Operating Officer of USB-IF

The new logos will be displayed on all certified cables, chargers and their packaging. The user will thus have the basic and at the same time the most important information immediately visible.
