Apple is working on new AirPods with all-new features that measure user health in a variety of ways.
There was a time when earphones were just for music, but like many wearables, these gadgets are getting more and more features. Apple therefore wants to make a big leap forward with all kinds of new features for the upcoming AirPods. In fact, the Cupertino company is toying with the idea of building all kinds of health functions into the earplugs.
New Apple AirPods aim for health
Apple is in fact working on ways to build health functions such as body temperature, hearing enrichment and posture in the next AirPods. Insiders report this to The Wall Street Journal. Apple would like to monitor multiple aspects of the user’s health through new sensors.
This is in line with a recent development of the company. Apple appears to want to map the mental health of the user, among other things. The advantage of developing new AirPods is that Apple can apply functions that were not possible before. Think of a thermometer that can measure the body temperature through the ear of the user. After all, so far we don’t wear gadgets in our body making accurate temperature measurements difficult.
According to studies, about 12.5% of all Americans have some sort of hearing problem. That’s another area Apple wants to get ahead of. Not everyone in that group uses a hearing aid. By incorporating that feature into the AirPods, a large group of users may be able to hear better without further adapting to their lifestyle.
It is not yet clear whether Apple will indeed go ahead with the plans. Prototypes are said to be in the works, but it is unknown at what stage of development these testers are.
