The Navigo pass will arrive on iPhone in February
Good news for Ile-de-France residents: the Navigo pass will be available on iPhone in February. Apple’s smartphone can be used as a transport ticket.
The Parisian reports that it will be possible to buy transport tickets (single ticket, weekly, monthly pass, antipollution pass or ticket to go to Roissy or Orly) on your iPhone thanks to the Navigo pass. It was only available on Android smartphones until now. In addition, it will be possible to use your iPhone at the train access terminals. It will work even if the iPhone is turned off. This feature should be reserved for recent iPhones (from iPhone XS).
There had already been information suggesting support for the Navigo pass on iPhone coming soon. A representative of Vianavigo Lab, the group that manages the collaborative space of Île-de-France Mobilités, had mentioned an arrival in the course of 2021. She had not given a more precise niche.
Why will Apple smartphones only have the Navigo pass in February, well after Android smartphones? It is mainly related to Apple and its blocking. The iPhone NFC chip has long been reserved for Apple Pay. Conversely, it is accessible to everyone on Android smartphones. But Apple has opened up a little more for some time. This explains the late arrival of the Navigo pass on iOS.
