“The girlfriend was crying on the floor”

When several small, creative brains come together, it is great fun. Unfortunately, the chance of an unforeseen accident also increases considerably.

Petra (39), mother of Anne (9):

“Because it was raining, Anne and her friend Lauren asked if they could play tennis inside. I’m not the hardest, so fine, but in the hallway with a soft ball. A moment later they passed with a stool. Lauren is a head shorter than Anne and hit the balls too low. The solution was obvious, my daughter thought: Lauren had to stand on a stool. And then I heard an icy scream.

My daughter had a good idea

Lauren sat on the floor crying. I let her make a few moves and found that the damage was not too bad. Probably a bruised arm, I said. When Lauren’s mother came to pick up her child, I laughed about the tennis incident. In the evening she texted me: they just came from the emergency room. Lauren had indeed broken her arm. I have never felt so bad and guilty.”

‘Could be’

Esther (36), mother of Zoë (6):

“I picked up my daughter from her friend Fenna. On the way back, Zoë cheerfully explained that they had baked toasted sandwiches themselves: ‘That wasn’t difficult at all, Mom, but I did burn my thumb.’ I missed someone in the story, a father or mother, and asked who was home during the sandwich adventure. “Nobody,” Zoe said. The girls had been home alone from three to five thirty.

That evening I called Fenna’s mother in a huff. He thought six was quite an age when children could be alone. Ha, I don’t post a letter when Zoë is home alone. I still had nightmares of overheated sandwich makers and burning houses at night.”
