In our section ‘The forgotten telephone/smartphone’ we regularly see beautiful gems. This week there is another one, the Sony Ericsson K750i. Those were times when Sony (Ericsson) was still very popular with devices, one or more Sony Ericsson devices could be found in every circle of friends. Although Sony still makes very solid smartphones, they are no longer as popular as devices from Samsung and Huawei, for example.

The Sony Ericsson K750i was released in 2005 by the Japanese-Swedish manufacturer. The K-series was all about the multimedia. It was quite thick in size with a thickness of 20.5 millimeters. This was partly due to the camera module that could be found in the device. The K750i offered support for Bluetooth, infrared and the 2G network.

Below the 1.8 inch screen (resolution 220 x 176 pixels) were three buttons for shortcuts. In addition, these soft keys were also used for telephone calls. There was no separate call button. Most eye-catching was the joystick. This allowed you to navigate in different directions, although not everyone was equally pleased with the functioning and operation of the joystick.

An important key feature of the Sony Ericsson K750i was the camera. On board was a 2.0 megapixel camera, making the Sony Ericsson one of the first at the time with such a camera. Switching on was done by sliding the lens cover to the side. Taking a photo was then done with the shutter button on the side of the phone. As a result, you quickly held the phone like a digital camera, and not upright.

Sony Ericsson also provided the K750i with a 900 mAh battery and a minimalist browser. You could also use the FM radio and there was a small 40MB of storage space. You could expand this memory with a special Memory Stick Duo Pro memory card of up to 32GB.

In the Netherlands, the Sony Ericsson K750i could also be found at telecom shops. The telephone was often sold with a subscription, but if you bought it separately, you would have lost around 300-350 euros. The phone was later succeeded by the Sony Ericsson K800i.

Sony Ericsson K750i summarized in 3 points:

  • 2.0 megapixel camera with lens cover
  • joystick
  • No hang up and call keys, but soft keys
