The best MCU film is missing 45 minutes

For many Marvel fans, Avengers: Infinity War is the best movie in the franchise yet – and they never got to see 45 crucial minutes. The MCU blockbuster was supposed to have a different beginning, which was actually filmed but then discarded.

Avengers: Infinity War was forever burned into the memory of MCU fans with its ending. Thanos snapping his fingers and wiping out half of all life in the universe was one of the MCU’s greatest moves. Unfortunately, due to cost and time constraints, the film’s prologue was cut.

Avengers: Infinity War should be 45 minutes longer

Starlin opened up about filming Avengers: Infinity War in an interview on the Near Mint Condition YouTube channel, revealing that the MCU blockbuster actually with a 45 minute attack by Thanos on the planet Xandar should start. The scene was shot with the actors, according to Starlin, but was scrapped before the special effects were used – using CGI would have increased the cost significantly. MCU: Could Marvel submit the mega scene?

Unfortunately, it is extremely doubtful that fans will ever see the 45-minute opening scene of Infinity War again. Although there have always been director’s cuts in the past – not least at Marvel competitor DC with the Snyder cut of Justice League – but so far there has been no official statement from Marvel and creating and integrating elaborate CGI effects would definitely require a large budget.
