We have the Apple Watch Ultra, which is mainly intended for hikers, scuba divers and other extreme athletes, unfortunately not yet on the editorial board, so we can’t test the specs ourselves yet. Fortunately, a table appeared online with some specifications of the battery of the Apple Watch Ultra. Please note: this information seems to us to be very reliable and realistic, but it is based on data from a Chinese database.

According to the table, the battery of the Apple Watch Ultra has a size of no less than 542 mAh. For comparison: the (large) Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 8 have ‘only’ 308 mAh and the new budget watch Apple Watch SE 2022 is already smaller with 296 mAh. If you convert this to percentages, the battery is no less than 76 percent larger than the Series 8.

However, these numbers don’t say much about the battery life of the Apple Watch Ultra. You should always see the contents of a battery in combination with other specifications. For example, some chips are more energy efficient than others.

According to Apple, the Ultra lasts 36 hours on a single charge. With the energy-saving mode you can stretch this to a maximum of 60 hours. You will lose some important sports functions, but you can count on this watch for longer in case of an emergency. If you use mobile data, the Apple Watch Ultra is at the same level as the other Apple Watches. Then it will last (according to Apple) 18 hours.

Because the Apple Watch Ultra has a larger battery, the smartwatch itself has also become somewhat larger. Although that is relatively less than the battery capacity suggests. To start with, this robust smartwatch has a 49 mm case. In comparison, the Apple Watch Series 8 are available in 41mm and 45mm. The housing of the Ultra is made of titanium and is therefore almost impossible to break.

In addition, the watch also looks a bit different. The Digital Crown and side button are bundled on one side. This side button has a ‘carte blanche’ out of the box. You determine via software what this button is for. This is especially useful for athletes who want to start a workout when it rains, for example.
