‘The babysitter was talking in the back alley’
A birthday girl who doesn’t feel like the party at all or the babysitter who is suddenly broke, it will only happen to you when you have carefully put together a blast.
Sabine (40): “Since my divorce three years ago, I have a babysitter at home two days a week. Ideal. She lives a few doors away, so if I want to go into town on the weekend, she can always come too. My daughters aged ten and eight adore her. So it seemed like a great plan when she suggested helping out at my oldest’s tenth birthday party.
Slightly distracted
I had the groceries delivered, I took care of the decoration myself; all the nanny had to do was keep an eye on all the kids while I entertained about forty adults. At the end of the afternoon the children got a bit dreary. “Where’s the babysitter anyway?” I asked. She had been missing for an hour.
“She had been missing for an hour”
When I opened the patio door to the back alley to take a look, she was talking – bottle of vodka in hand – with the boy next door. I kindly sent her home and have been working from home two days a week ever since.”

Room service
Sam (32): “My son (7) does not like large groups and crowds. But because I thought family is something else after all, I organized a small drink before his graduation for his A diploma. He could still appreciate that Grandma was at the door. But when all the uncles and aunts plus nephews and nieces appeared, he went into hiding in his room. It was impossible to get him out, so we delivered the fries as room service.”
