The “authors” of SnowRunner announced the Dakar Desert Rally, but Vortex

Dakar Rally returns to the world of video games. And as we pointed out some time ago, it is less often than we would like. Last time we had a not very convincing Dakar 18 from Bigmoon and Deep Silver studios. Now we finally have another attempt at one of the most famous races in the form of ones and zeros. Saber Interactive has announced a new Dakar Desert Rally racing game.

There will be over 30 stages to choose from in 2020 and 2021, authentic competitors and we will set out into an open world that should not limit us.

Of course, there are licensed teams and machines of various categories from motorcycles, cars, ATVs to trucks. In total, the virtual garage should contain more than 150 controllable pieces. The authors of SnowRunner (but beware, it will have a catch) promise a unique challenge of off-road simulation, single and online multiplayer. There will be over 30 stages to choose from in 2020 and 2021, authentic competitors and we will set out into an open world that should not limit us. The title will also support a large number of steering wheels.

The race is intended to dramatize the changing weather, the seasons and the alternation of day and night. We will encounter sandstorms, rain and snow. As a matter of fact, you can easily get stuck or malfunction during a race. But it is also possible – again, as in a real race – to help others. The developers literally promise the most massive open world in the field of off-road games. In addition to extreme weather, we can also look forward to realistic physics or support for community content.

While it is a simulation, the title also appeals to casual racers, attracting developers. We will also choose the method of navigation according to the degree of difficulty. The game is developed by the Saber Porto team, but as I said, it has a small catch. This is the successor to the Bigmoon team, not directly to the SnowRunner developer. Bigmoon previously created the aforementioned Dakar 18 and in October 2019 it was bought by Saber Interactive. Paris-Dakar Rally Special (1988) for NES, Paris-Dakar Rally (2001) for PC and PS2 and Dakar 2: The World’s Ultimate Rally for PS2, Xbox and GameCube were previously released.

Outside are the first screenshots and a trailer from the Dakar Desert Rally. And as you would probably expect, you can see the Czech footprint several times. The Dakar Desert Rally will be released next year, targeting the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series, and has already launched the official website.
