Tesla and Steam are getting married!

Elon Musk is hard at work bringing Steam to all Tesla cars, but is this really a useful feature?

Good news for the lucky owners of Teslas, because Elon Musk is bringing the biggest gaming platform to the electric cars. The next-gen consoles in a Tesla will finally get to do more than just play sporadically ported games in the near future.

Steam is coming to Tesla

Elon Musk praised the developer of Cyberpunk 2077 on the controversial game yesterday. Subsequently, game journalist Ryan McCaffrey asked if the next-gen version of Cyberpunk was coming to Tesla.

Out of nowhere dropped Elon Musk as an answer the hot news that Steam is indeed coming to Tesla. In other words, Tesla and Valve are working to bring the actual catalog from the game store to the electric cars. For now, titles with a port are only sporadically brought to Tesla. In theory, this would mean that all games available via Steam will soon also be playable in a Tesla.

For whom?

The use cases of such a function are still up for debate. A console in a car is a nice extra, but we are not yet at the point where this does not entail any risks. It was recently announced that you can no longer play games in a Tesla while driving after new legislation.

Previously this was possible, although the driver must always continue to drive the car. This is monitored by sensors, even if you have turned on the expensive Autopilot function. So it was only possible for co-drivers to play games while driving, but this would be distracting for the driver.

What remains is a single situation where, for example, you wait in the parking lot and briefly complete a quest in The Witcher 3. It will probably take quite a few years before Steam is also applicable in a Tesla during a long car ride.
