T-Mobile is now offering it for the Galaxy Watch 4

You can now call and surf the internet with your Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 LTE without having your smartphone in your pocket. T-Mobile is launching Multisim for Android. This makes T-Mobile the first telecom provider in the Netherlands to do so.

What is Multisim

Multisim has been available to owners of a 4G version of the Apple Watch for a few months now, and now owners of a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 LTE can take advantage of it. With a Multisim subscription and a smartwatch with LTE/4G support, you can use a mobile connection on your smartwatch to, for example, make calls or surf the internet, without having to have a paired smartphone nearby.

So you can leave your phone at home during a walk and still send messages to your friends via your smartwatch. You can also make calls via your smartwatch.

How Multisim works

There are already smartwatches that have an internet connection, such as this one from Garmin. This watch uses eSIM. That’s a chip that’s part of a device’s motherboard, which allows for significant space savings and many more advantages (and disadvantages too).

Multisim also uses eSIM, two in total. This Multisim subscription makes it possible to add an extra sim to your current subscription by linking it to it. For example, owners of the 4G version of an Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 can link their smartwatch to their subscription. So the smartwatch and phone share the same phone number.

Multisim is a separate service for which you take out a new subscription. If you buy your smartwatch from T-Mobile, your subscription and Multisim are automatically linked. But you still have to link your smartwatch to your phone yourself. If you buy your smartwatch elsewhere, you have to buy Multisim separately and link your subscription and your phone yourself.

What does Multisim cost?

T-Mobile will make its Multisim subscriptions available from Monday 27 June. There are various possibilities:

  • For € 5 per month, T-Mobile customers can link Multsim to their existing subscription.
  • Combination Go subscription and Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 LTE is available from € 13 per month.

T-Mobile will initially only bring Multisim for Android to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 LTE. The provider will add multiple Android models at a later stage. The Galaxy Watch 2 LTE and 3 LTE are not supported by T-Mobile.
