Storytel Reader: officially available in the Netherlands
After an earlier European launch in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, among others, the Storyteal Reader has now also been launched in the Netherlands. With the e-reader you can get started with digital books in different forms. This way you can of course get started with ebooks and dream away while reading them. However, Storytel is also known for the wide range of audiobooks and you can also listen to them with this e-reader.
There is a headphone jack on board, so you can easily switch between reading and listening. So you read a chapter in bed and when you get in the car you hear exactly how the story continues. You can also pair wireless headphones or speakers and swoon over a wonderful audio book via Bluetooth.
Specifications Storytel reader
The screen has a diagonal of 6 inches and a resolution of 1024 by 758 pixels. That ensures an excellent pixel density of 212, so that everything looks razor-sharp. There is a built-in backlight, with which you can adjust the color temperature of the screen. For example, in the evenings you can filter out the blue light, which is slightly better for the eyes and then go to sleep.
There is 8GB of internal memory, so you can store thousands of books on it. The battery is 3000 mAh and can easily last several weeks. Charging is done via the future-proof USB-C port. The company also supplies a charger and cable, so you don’t have to purchase them separately. Finally, the device has WiFi, so that books can also be synchronized quickly and easily wirelessly.
First experiences Storytel Reader
What is striking is the colorful packaging in which the ereader is packaged. The basic specifications can be found on the back and the whole thing resembles a large cardboard book. The device weighs 200 grams and measures 170 by 117 by 8.7 millimeters and is therefore very handy. The whole is made of white plastic and especially the bottom edge is striking that it is slightly wider than, for example, Kobo Clara HD, which also has a 6-inch screen.
There are nice physical buttons on both sides to scroll through a book, change the volume or navigate through the menu. On the front you will also find a physical orange button, not entirely coincidentally the Storytel logo. That logo can also be found on the back. The headphone jack and usb-c port are placed at the bottom and at the top you will find the on/off button in which a blue LED is hidden. You only see this when you turn the device on or off.
The whole feels robust, but it is smooth plastic, so you have to pay attention. As mentioned, the manufacturer supplies a charger and USB-C cable, which is nice. When you start it up for the first time, you will be presented with a few questions for the perfect installation. Think of setting up WiFi and updating the device.
After that, it’s time to transfer ebooks and/or audiobooks and really get to work with the Storytel Reader. You can read about how that works and all our other experiences with this eReader on iPhoned soon, because then we will publish our entire review!
