Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III now get the Android 12 update

Sony’s Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III devices are now getting the Android 12 update. The update is now rolling out after Android 12 first appeared on Google devices in October 2021. Sony is not the fastest supplier following Google, but certainly not the slowest either.

You can identify the new update for the third generation Xperia 1s and 5s by the number 61.1.A.1.149. You will also immediately find the Android security updates from December 2021, which is probably a bit late due to bugs that still had to be fixed. Most important, however, is the rollout of Android 12 itself, as the update would include all the innovations Google has made for this operating system update.

However, Sony has also created a section on its site where people can read more about what the update to Android 12 means. A text that seems a bit outdated: “Android has just launched its annual update with a new version called Android 12, and that’s always a big deal! You will love the new Android 12 features and improvements! With Android 12 you can now take scrolling screenshots. Operate your Xperia device with just one hand in the newly revamped one-handed mode. Use the screen dimming function to make it easier on your eyes in a dark environment. Use Nearby Sharing for easy Wi-Fi sharing.”

If you have one of these Sony phones and are ready for the update, make sure you’re on WiFi when you download it: it’s a hefty one. However, it may also take a while before it is your phone’s turn, because Sony has not shared a clear roadmap with when which region will be discussed. However, you do not necessarily have to wait for the notification from Sony, because you can also check within the Settings whether your phone is equipped with the latest update.
