Sony unveils new PS5 master plan that many gamers will hate

As part of a business presentation, Sony announced how they intend to invest in the PlayStation division in the future. The result is likely to annoy fans of pure single-player games in particular. We summarize all the data for you.

By 2025, Sony wants to promote one area in particular

The PlayStation 5 is on the rise and is currently selling extremely well. And with Final Fantasy 16, the next big exclusive blockbuster is just around the corner. So it’s no surprise that Sony announced in April that they would in future want to invest even more money in the PlayStation division. More on this in this article:

Now the Japanese company has made a business presentation commented somewhat more extensively on the investments. The main issue was how the multi-billion dollar budget would be distributed.

Accordingly, a good 50 percent of around 14.6 billion US dollars used to create new games and brands so that PlayStation fans can continue to look forward to big titles like Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon Forbidden West.

The other half is invested in the production and development of live service games. And here’s the crux of the matter: Sony believes that these games are the future and wants to by 2025 more than 60 percent of the total budget into these kind of games. This means that classic offline and single-player games take a backseat (source: The Verge).

Life service games are heavily criticized

From the point of view of a group, the decision is quite understandable. After all, successful life service games like Fortnite guarantee a steady incomewhile large single-player games such as God of War Ragnarök are also commercially successful but only generate profits over a relatively short period of time.

The big problem: Life service games don’t have a particularly good reputation in the gaming community. Overloaded servers, microtransactions, countless patches, online compulsion and many other criticisms have formed the unpopular image of these games.

So it remains to be seen whether Sony’s plan will work in this regard. In any case, there are currently 12 games of this type in development (Source: game spot).
