Thermomix and alternatives from Bosch, Lidl and Aldi at a glance

Food processors that can cook themselves – that’s when most people think of the pioneer Thermomix from Vorwerk. We present you the original and its alternatives in comparison.

Vorwerk Thermomix TM6

Coveted and…unmatched? The Thermomix, the original from Wuppertal. The food processor first appeared under the name in the 1980s, and the entire product history with its predecessors goes back even further. In addition to decades of experience, there are also tons of patents in the successful model, including the current version Vorwerk Thermomix TM6, which has been available since 2019. Cooking, steaming, searing, grinding, mixing, stirring, kneading, beating, weighing and much more – combined in a single machine.

A key part of the overall experience is the accompanying app Cookidoo, in which thousands of recipes are available for the Thermomix – if desired also directly on the display of the device. Apricot and carrot muffins, pear, bean and bacon gratin or a tofu and vegetable bowl with couscous – the variety of dishes (and side dishes) for adults and children is amazing. When purchasing a Thermomix TM6, 6 months of free access to the recipe portal are included, after that 48 euros per year are due. “Great quality, good addition to the Cookidoo app and many recipes that are easy to implement,” says Laura Ritter in the test at Familie.de Celebration. The Thermomix TM6 received special praise for the production of baby food, which “is incredibly finely pureed and is therefore ideal for freezing.”

“In general, the Thermomix helps to cook consciously more often and inspires new foods in the kitchen,” says Laura Ritter at Familie.de about the TM6 (Image source: Vorwerk)

Is it worth buying a Thermomix TM6? With stately prices starting at 1,399 euros, it is advisable to get a clear idea in advance of what tasks the luxury purchase should be assigned in the future. Countless positive reports from families (child nutrition) but also from individuals (change in diet) show that the Thermomix can meet high expectations and has what it takes to be a “game changer” in the kitchen.

Advantages:

  • high quality
  • easy handling
  • very large selection of recipes

Disadvantages:

  • high purchase price
  • Recipe portal subscription (optional) causes additional costs

Bosch Cookit MCC9555DWC

A serious challenger: The Bosch Cookit MCC9555DWC (RRP 1,399 euros, look at the manufacturer) is priced on par with the Thermomix. The pot included in the scope of delivery is extremely large with a capacity of 3 liters (Thermomix TM6: 2.2 liters) and the motor is not quite as loud at maximum power as with the top dog from Wuppertal.

In a comparison of the test magazine (issue 07/2022), the Bosch Cookit was the test winner against the competitors Krups Prep&Cook XL (view at Cyberport) and Silvercrest SKMC 1200 F6 (view at Lidl) with a rating of 94.2% and the grade ” very good”. The good results are praised, so the prepared dishes can convince with “externally and internally appealing quality”. No serious weaknesses were identified.

The Cookit recipe selection is large, but cannot (yet) keep up with the Thermomix. That’s what the recipe platform at Bosch is for Simply Cookit Accessible free of charge and without subscription fees.

Advantages:

  • high quality
  • easy handling
  • large capacity

Disadvantages:

Silvercrest food processors at Lidl

No longer an insider tip: the Neckarsulm-based discounter Lidl sells real bargains among kitchen appliances with a cooking function nationwide.

Silvercrest Monsieur Cuisine connect trend (SKMC 1200 F6)

The model SKMC 1200 F6 impresses with an almost unbelievable price of 399 euros (look at Lidl). A 7-inch diagonal touch display is placed in the middle.

in the Test at Familie.de there was praise for the good usability and the recipe selection (over 500 recipes with step-by-step instructions are on the device). However: “The mixing bowl doesn’t have a handle and is relatively heavy, so it’s a bit awkward if you have to decant something, for example,” stated tester Nicole Metz. The performance is lower than the two premium models from Vorwerk and Bosch.

Advantages:

  • low purchase price
  • easy handling
  • large capacity

Disadvantages:

  • slightly low power (800 watts)

Silvercrest Kitchen Tools Monsieur Cuisine smart (SKMS 1200 A1)

In the summer of 2022, Lidl followed up and with that SKMS 1200 A1 presented an improved model for the price of 499 euros (view at Lidl).

An 8-inch display is integrated here and the performance has been increased: According to the manufacturer, the new “Monsieur Cuisine smart” can process twice as much dough as the previous model “Monsieur Cuisine connect”. Andrea Zschocher has the food processor tested for Familie.de and praises the accompanying “Monsieur Cuisine App” for mobile phones: “Thanks to the cooking app, I can still discuss what we want to eat with the children when I’m on the go. I have my shopping list with me.”

Advantages:

  • fair purchase price
  • easy handling
  • large capacity

Disadvantages:

  • Despite numerous improvements, it cannot keep up with Vorwerk and Bosch in terms of performance and range of functions

Comv food processor at Aldi

A “food processor with WLAN function” can also be found in the Aldi online shop, which is quite similar in terms of design and function to the models presented here. The predecessors were sold under the names “Quigg” (Aldi Nord) and “Ambiano” (Aldi Süd), now the brand name is “Comv”. The actual manufacturer is Globaltronics GmbH & Co. KG from Hamburg. The promotional price for the Comv food processor (item number GT-SF-CC1) of currently 349 euros (look at Aldi’s online shop) undercuts the competition.

Comv food processor with WiFi function

In addition to 200 recipes, the new Comv Cook food processor offers numerous functions such as stirring, kneading, mixing, boiling, steaming, emulsifying, pureeing and weighing.

At 2.2 liters, the stainless steel mixing container of the Aldi food processor is as large as that of the Thermomix TM6 and therefore smaller than that of the Bosch Cookit or the Monsieur Cuisine smart from Lidl. The touch display has a diagonal of 7 inches. The matching app for Android and iOS is called GT-SF-CC1 and is available free of charge. You can use it to create your own recipes and transfer them to the food processor. A Recipe book (PDF) is on the manufacturer’s website freely accessible.

Advantages:

  • low purchase price
  • all essential functions are available (cooking, cooking, weighing, stirring, chopping, etc.)

Disadvantages:

  • cannot keep up with Vorwerk and Bosch in terms of performance and range of functions
  • only 200 recipes preinstalled

Thermomix and Cookit: how can you afford it?

Above all, the two models Vorwerk Thermomix TM6 and Bosch Cookit MCC9555DWC are no longer small purchases with prices well over 1,000 euros.

If you really want a new Thermomix TM6, but don’t have the money at the moment, you can finance the purchase. This can be done either via a loan from the bank (see comparison portal Smava) or directly via the manufacturer Vorwerk. Vorwerk also offers financing via its in-house AKF Vorwerk Bank (see also FAQ at Vorwerk). Terms of 12, 24 and 36 months are offered, with interest accruing. With a net loan amount of EUR 1,399 and an effective annual interest rate of 9.9% pa and 12 monthly installments (EUR 122.65), the total amount (without down payment) is currently EUR 1,471.80.

The manufacturer also offers financing for the Bosch Cookit, currently with 0% interest. During the campaign period September 15, 2022 – October 31, 2022, the purchase price can be divided into 24 monthly installments of EUR 58.30 and a final monthly installment of EUR 58.10. Further Information on this on the manufacturer’s website.
