SMS as NFT. Don’t you understand Vodafone sells the first text message

Historically, the first SMS or “Short Message Service” is for sale in the form of an NFT or “non-fungible token”. To charity auctions it was placed in this modern format by the international operator Vodafone, in whose network a significant text message was sent on 3 December 1992. The news can now be won by the winner of an exceptional auction organized by the Aguttes hall in France. Buyer of the so-called NFT token gets a unique replica of the original communication protocol.

The first SMS

It was a 15-character “Merry Christmas” message that Vodafone employee Richard Jarvis received from his colleague Neil Papworth. He then sent it from a computer and it was a primitive predecessor of later SMS, which were deployed for commercial use only in 1999.

Vodafone donates the proceeds of this auction to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, specifically to support people who have been forced to flee their homes or face persecution due to war. The auction hall so far estimates the highest bid somewhere for the levels 100 to 200 thousand euros (approx. 2.5 to 5 million crowns). That is, in terms of the cryptocurrency Ethereum, which is used for these purchases. The online auction itself will take place on the portal on December 21.

How do you perceive the NFT phenomenon so far?
