Dm Instagram: private message that disappears by itself

Instagram is mainly used to share Stories and photos with your followers. If you only want to show a photo or video to one of your friends, you have to send an Instagram DM or a private message.

That all sounds familiar, but it is also possible in Instagram to send a DM with a photo or video that disappears by itself. We show you how to do that.

How to send an Instagram DM that deletes itself:

  1. Open Instagram and tap the paper airplane in the top right (or swipe left);
  2. In the list of friends, search for the person you want to DM on Instagram;
  3. Tap the camera icon next to the person’s name;
  4. Take the photo or video;
  5. Tap ‘Allow replay’ and ‘Save in chat’ at the bottom left until it finally says ‘View once’;
  6. Tap “Send” to send the private message that deletes itself.

The recipient can view your creation once, after which the photo or video is gone. You should not forget that the recipient can always take a screenshot or a screen recording of your sent message. So unfortunately the function is not completely waterproof.
