New Pixel Watch Leak Shows Old Version Wear OS 3.1

A notable leak: The new Pixel Watch appears to run on Wear OS 3.1, an outdated version of Google’s wearable operating system. The leak comes from a reliable good, namely Evan Blass (evleaks).

Pixel Rohan

He apparently got or found pictures on a server stating that there is an inactive tutorial for ‘Pixel Rohan’. It’s already known that the working title of the first Google Pixel wearable is Rohan, so he’s most likely right. Although the leak is not very interesting because there is no photo of the device, something else stands out, namely that the smart watch does not run on a modern version of Wear OS, but on the outdated 3.1.

Blass seems to know that it won’t be long now before we get to see Pixel Rohan in real life, which in itself might add up given the upcoming Google I/O presentation on May 11. It would be great if Google debuts the new smartwatch there, but whether we should be so happy with such an old version of the Google-developed Wear OS is another matter.

WearOS 3.1

Wearables on Wear OS currently use Wear OS 3.2. That has been available since February and is already available on Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. This makes it look like the interactive tutorial is just a kind of test version, because Google Pixel Watch must almost run on Wear OS 3.2?

We were very pleased with Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Wear OS: “Google and Samsung announced in May that they are working together on a new operating system for smartwatches: Wear OS 3. The Galaxy Watch 4 series runs on One UI Watch that is based on is on Wear OS 3 and features a number of new capabilities. For example, compatible apps automatically appear on your smartwatch as soon as you have downloaded them on your smartphone. In addition, your most important settings are immediately synchronized with the watch. Auto Switch ensures that you switch directly between your phone and watch with your earbuds.”
