Scam: beware of Deep Voices!

We already know all the deepfakes. Moreover, researchers have found a way to easily detect them. However, the fight against identity theft and scams backed by the use of technology is not over yet.

Do you know the scam to the president or fake transfer orders (FOV)? This is a popular scam of impersonating a business owner. Well, the crooks have just boosted this form of scam by adding artificial intelligence to it.

The crooks managed to secure a $ 35 million wire transfer

The incident took place in the United Arab Emirates. The director of a large bank was effectively duped by the cloned voice of the boss of a company he had as a client. Following a discussion with this alleged business owner, the banker validated a transfer of $ 35 million.

Fortunately, once the pot-aux-roses discovered, the authorities – helped by American investigators – were able to find 17 people involved. Nonetheless, this AI-boosted president scam may become common practice among scammers in the near future. This could take the form of a loved one who suddenly asks us for money after their mailbox has been hacked, for example.

In any case, there is no doubt that with the Deep Voices, the crooks could make more victims than with the methods known until now. This is why vigilance is essential.
